Problem.While teaching typography, students create a 2-page magazine spread. I needed an example to explain the scope of the project and try out how they might incorporate AI into their workflow.
solution.At the time, this song was dominating my brain-space. I decided to use it as an example to share with my class, but had a limited time to create the work.
I used AI to help me generate example text, specifically revising to ensure the headline, section headers, and pull quotes had a strong voice. This allowed me to test whether the students would benefit from using AI in this way.
I also wanted to demonstrate how type could be used beyond a very basic layout. I built type into the textured background using song lyrics, incorporated expressive type in the headline, and explored how to style pull quotes.
Playing with the punk style also gave me an opportunity to discuss the pitfalls of setting monotype style typefaces.
